Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players often get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in nearly every poker game.
A lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult initially, after a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming range of betting options and because you have numerous players shooting for the high, and several shooting for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi lo.
