Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants often get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in nearly all poker games.
A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
While it seems difficult at the outset, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of play simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting assortment of betting choices and because you have numerous players shooting for the high hand, along with a few battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha Hi-Lo.
