Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi-low starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players often get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in almost every poker game.
The low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting collection of wagering possibilities and because you have several individuals shooting for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
