Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some players often get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly three cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
While it seems difficult at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi lo offers an amazing collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, as well as a few battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi-low.
