Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants often get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complicated initially, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play simply enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha High-Low provides an overwhelming collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals shooting for the high, along with a few battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha/8.
